Jennifer Rex

Hello Wellness Coalition members! My name is Jennifer Rex, and I work at Eastern Health in the Population and Public Health Division as a School Health Promotion Liaison Consultant. It is wonderful to be able to connect health and education and see them work together to provide healthy schools and therefore, healthy students.

In 2004, I convocated from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador with a Bachelor of Recreation. From there, I moved to Ontario where I spent six years working in Long Term Care as a Recreation Therapist and Program Manager, until moving back to Newfoundland in 2009 to start a family. Once settled in Clarenville, I worked with the Community Youth Network (a wellness coalition member) and then as a Youth Outreach Worker with Mental Health and Addictions for five years before taking this new opportunity one year ago.

I grew up in the small community of Goose Cove, Trinity Bay. I now live in Clarenville with my husband and our two boys, Liam aged 10 and Hudson, aged 7. I enjoy spending time with my family. We spend many weekends at our cabin which is close to my hometown. We enjoy snowshoeing, ski doing, fishing and boil ups. I still play volleyball and love cross country skiing with friends. Travel is another passion! Really looking forward to the pandemic to end so I can visit another place and explore another culture.

Over the years, I have worked with all ages and been able to see how healthy communities create healthy individuals. During my career and while volunteering, I have relied heavily on community partners. It truly mazes me what can be accomplished when you ask for help or see what others have done in the past. Unfortunately, many don’t realize how many groups, supports and clubs are in their backyard. This is why I love the Wellness Coalition, not only does it bring people together to share ideas and resources but it highlights what is available in the region so people can join, volunteer, feel supported…things that impact ones health in a positive way. The coalition is helping bring people together from all over the region and giving people a sense of community who maybe never had the privilege to feel that before. I am thrilled that this position allows me to be part of the Steering Committee and work with passionate individuals who want to see communities thrive. I look forward to working with you all and hearing your wonderful success stories.
